Brrrrrr...

Our first official freeze of the year is going on right now!
I was out about an hour ago looking for the Northern Lights and noticed the frost shimmering on the deck.
I purchased some rubber mats to put on the deck so I won't do my break dance on the ice this year! On the lower part of the deck I tacked a strip of my old carpet where I walk so I won't slip and fall flat on my back and get stuck on the icy deck in my flannel nightgown like I did this last Spring!!
I didn't see any Auroras tonight.

I feel like it is New Years day after a night of partying. The stress of the elections did me in.....I was totally bushed today. (Teeheeheeheehee). I commented on another's blog and realized what I said, and thought it was funny. Get it? Bush...(bushed). Oh never mind!

Today's tidbit....If it weren't for STRESS I'd have no energy at all.

Y'all have a great Thursday!!

Please, let these elections be over soon!!

I had a full day at work today after 5 days of being sick!
I am DOG TIRED!! I think I will take a long shower and get my book and go to bed around 8:00 and escape from the television and have a good nights sleep!!
I will say some deep prayers tonight asking for the elections to go by without any horrible incidents, and that whoever wins, the other will be a gracious loser.

We are having a typical November storm tonight. The wind is blowing and the rain is hitting the windows sideways. The temp is 45 and a warm front is blowing through melting the snow in the passes that we got this weekend. Now there are flood watches in some of the rivers. Tomorrow night a cold front will blow through making more snow for the mountain passes. I love it!! I also love that I can stay in my warm bed listening to the storm knowing I won't be called out in it to rescue someone!! I paid my dues for 15 years in the Fire Department, now some young whipper snapper can do it and I can listen to my scanner.
Ahhhhh, calgon take me away!!
Y'all have a safe night and don't forget to VOTE tomorrow!!

Trick-or-Doggie Treat!!

Well it is getting darker and it is almost 4:30pm. The little gremlins will be knocking in about an hour.
I have my spooks all set up and ready to scare them!! Muahahahahaha

I actually yelled sarcasticlly at the tv today!!
I am SICK of those campaign ads and the people talking 600mph to get the stuff in the time limit!!
I mean really, do they think we can actually understand what the heck they are babbling about?
Well one pissed me off so I won't vote for them!! So there!!
Well I actually already voted but I wouldn't vote for them any way!
I think the entire world is ready for all this to be over with!!

Ah, I feel better now!! I am ready to get back to work tomorrow whether I am well or not!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
You read about all these terrorists ---
most of them came here legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10 -15 years.
Now, compare that to Blockbuster;
you are two days late with a video and those people are all over you.
Let's put Blockbuster in charge of immigration.

I just realized that I had a year on the Blogger october 27th! My how time flies!!
And if I had stayed married, this would have been our 30th anniversary!! (Shiver)

Hmmmm Maybe this is why I am sick!!

Well this might be the reason I keep getting sick!!!
EEEYYYUUUU!! The Blue one is hers!!! She's using mine!!

Nuns and Dracula
Two nuns, Sister Catherine and Sister Helen, are traveling through Europe in their car.
They get to Transylvania and are stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tiny little Dracula jumps on the hood of the car and hisses through the windshield.
"Quick, quick!" shouts Sister Catherine. "What shall we do?"
"Turn the windshield wipers on. That will get rid of the abomination", says Sister Helen.
Sister Catherine switches them on, knocking Dracula about, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns. "What shall I do now?" she shouts.
"Switch on the windshield washer. I filled it up with Holy Water at the Vatican," says Sister Helen.
Sister Catherine turns on the windshield washer. Dracula screams as the water burns his skin, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns. "NOW what?" shouts Sister Catherine?
"Show him your cross," says Sister Helen, quickly.
"Now you're talking," says Sister Catherine. She opens the window and shouts,
"Get the f-ck off the car!"

I don't wanna get up!!

This is the third day I have stayed home with a horrible respiratory virus!
My throat and lungs are raw and all I want to do is sleep.
So I have a good book and I wake up and eat something (nothing ever makes me lose my appetite) , get chilled so I lay down to read, and a few hours later wake up, go eat something.... well you get my drift!
This is the third virus I've had since August! Enough is enough already!!
I'm sure glad I got the flu shot! hmpfff!
Y'all all have a great weekend!

Lunar Eclipse

I am sitting in my kitchen at the computer with my blinds pulled up. I have the perfect view of the lunar eclipse. It is total right now 7:33pm. It looks like the middle picture here. Kind of orange red looking.
I get all excited with happenings in the sky and earth. I am always amazed by it. Here I am watching the moon that millions of other people are watching all at the same time!! AWESOME!!

I did my duty yesterday and cast my absentee vote! I prayed when I mailed it that God chooses the best man for the job no matter who I voted for. I pray the person does a job to make us all proud. I pray that peace can come to all of us here and to quit our belly aching about who is best and who did what and who didn't do what!!

I copied this prayer from Mark Daniels blog. I sure hope he doesn't mind!!

Lord:You command us to pray for our daily bread, the things we need for daily living.
Through Jesus, You also demonstrate that You are a God of grace.
And so, as we near the end of this bruising presidential campaign, we ask that You would give our country not the President we deserve, but the one we need. And the president the world needs from America, too.
Grant that our next President, whether it's Senator Kerry or President Bush, will be an instrument in Your hands. Grant that through that President, You will help make ours "a more perfect union."
In the Name of Jesus our Savior, we pray.AMEN

Well said Mark!!

Back to the World Sweepies I mean Series! hehehehe

Al & Nancy's

My friends that grow the corn Mary Lou & I rave about made this yard ornament for Halloween.
He is really talented, isn't he? He said he will help us next year make a display for Island Transit!

Hope everyone's day went well. I had a really busy day at work again and am going to bed tonight around 9:00. We have the monthly potluck tomorrow at work so I am taking the leftover Tamale Pie. Shhhh, they'll never know!! I'll just put it in a smaller dish, add more cheese and heat it up!! It is better a few days later anyway!

Someone asked for the recipe so here it is:

Tamale Pie
2 cans Hormel Beef Tamales
2 cans Hormel chili without beans
1 large can cream corn
1 can small black olives (squeeze them to break them up)
4 cups grated Colby/Jack cheese (reserve 1 cup) or use cheddar…whatever you like. (or more)
¾ cup cornmeal

Cut the tamales into bite size pieces discarding the papers. Dump the sauce from the can into the bowl. Dump everything else into the bowl except the reserved cup of cheese. Pour into a big glass or stainless bowl and stir well. Top off with remaining cheese.

Bake at 350 degree oven for about an hour. Best if eaten warmed over or let stand awhile. Good for picnic, camping or potlucks. (huh, George?)

You can add whatever you like. I use diced green chili’s sometimes. I like to top it off with sour cream on my plate.

So there you have it folks!! Such a hard thing to make, huh? hehehehe

Well tomorrow is hump day already!! YAHOOO

Bewitched Punkin

I couldn't help myself!
Leslie put pictures of Bilbo all dressed up so I just had to show off Punkin in her witch hat!
Doesn't she look thrilled?

I am having a rather laid back weekend.

I went to my AA meeting on Friday night and the subject was "Family and sobriety". They all shared about how they used to be drunk at all family afairs etc, and how great it is to actually drive to the city for a concert and drive back with no fear of cops! And their family enjoys them now. Well I guess I was a different drunk. My family was drunk right along with me! My husband hated it when I went on the wagon for a week or so. He said I was too boring. My mom was my best drinking buddy. I guess my sister is the only one that liked the fact that I quit drinking. Anyhoo, I do like to show people that I am still just as crazy and fun as I used to be but only I am sober now. My "drinking" buddies are still sitting in the same bars drinking the same drinks and talking the same ole boring talk, married to different people now, wasting their time and money away. Hey, there's a song out about that! "Wasted days and wasted Nights"!

I went to Church last night and we are having a potluck tonight at 5:30.
I just put the Tamale Pie in the oven so it will be hot for tonight. Mmmm, smells good!!

Well I heard the dryer stop so I need ot make my bed and finish the never ending chores!!

Hope Y'all have a grand Sunday!

I met two witches who were twins -
I just couldn't tell which witch was which!

Maybe I'll get dressed and head into Burlington to look for that perfect coffee maker that Leslie raves about.
I'll let you know.

Q: What witches do you find in the desert?
A: Sandwitches!

Winter is here

I recieved this in an E-mail this morning and couldn't help but share it with Y'all!
I love the message!

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years.
It seems just yesterday that I was a young girl, just married and embarking on my new life with my husband. And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all... And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams...

But, here it is...the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did my youth go?

I remember well...seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like... But, here it is...husband retired yesterday and he's really getting gray...he moves slower and I see an older man now. He's in much better shape than me...but, I see the great change... Not the one I married who was dark and young and strong... but, like me, his age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore...it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will...I just fall asleep where I sit! And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things. But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...This I know, that when it's over...I will enjoy the Spring in the arms of my loving Father...and wait for my loved ones to come when their winter is over too...

So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! For remember that scripture?...our life is but a vapor, it vanished away...So, do what you can today, because you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life... so, live for the Lord today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember

Joke of the day:
Q: Did you hear about the dog trainer who joined a coven?
A: He went from wags to witches.

Enjoy your Friday!!!

The last of the Witches!

Here's my costume!

Florence Newton mid 17th Century. A trial most famous in Ireland was that of Florence Newton also known as "the Witch of Youghal". She was accused of bewitching people into fits and of killing them with these fits. Her trial unlike most trials involved no torture. One young lady who was bewitched by her went through fits of which many things were vomitted up by her and many different things were thrown at her. If Florence newton was left unhandcuffed the young lady would have fits and fall ill but if handcuffed would remain calm and have no fits.
Dolly Pentreath 1692-1777. Was born in Cornwall, England. Never married but had a son. She was acredited with the knowledge of astrology and possessed magical powers which people would come and use her for. She was able to use her powers for good and bad.
Elisabeth Sawyer ?-1621. Elisabeth Sawyer also Known as "Witch of Edmonton" was accused of bewitching her neighors children and cattle because they refused to buy her brooms. When she was being harrassed she finally confessed to being a witch. She was hanged for confessing to be a witch.

Toad-Witch these are self-initiated witches in English folkore who are accredited with possessing the power to overlook or cast the evil-eye over a person. They were powerful and most feared. They had powers also over horses, pigs and men. It was considered dangerous being a Toad-Witch as one was likely to go insane because of the supernatural powers possessed and usually died a violent death.
Witch of Endor was accredited with raising of the spirit of Samuel at the request of King Saul of Israel. In the bible it is said that Saul wished to find out whether he should fight the Philistine Army. Some say that the witch was a fake and that she threw her voice to sound like Samuel when in fact she lied about seeing god or angels, about incantations. Some believed that there may have been a spirit conjured but that it was more likely to have been the Devil but some believed that it was not the Devil as he would have been repelled by the word God or Jehovah and that the Devil would not have punished someone but would have encouraged them to do more evil.
Joan Wytte 1775-1813. Cornish woman also known by the name of the Fighting Fairy Woman of Bodmin. She was said to be clairvoyant and that people would seek her services as a seer, diviner and healer. She was known to visit a holy well where she tied clouties (a charm that is a strip of cloth taken from a sick person. Which would decay and was suppose to heal the person in a magical way. Still done today.) on the branches of trees.
Later on as a result of a tooth abscess she became very ill-tempered and would shout at people. She became involved in a large fight with people where she used her remarkable strength and bashed people and threw them across a room. She was arrested and sent to jail where she died as a result of the poor conditions. When she died her body was dissected and the skeleton was placed in a coffin, later on it was recovered and used as a joke in a seance which went wrong as it was alleged the lid of the coffin in which the skeletal remains was placed, flew open and started going around and assaulting the people taking part in the seance. After this the bones were to pass onto an antique dealer, and later on a founder of a Museum of Witchcraft. It was later said that while on display in the museum they started to experience poltergeist at which a witch was brought in to consult them of what to do and it was said that Wytte's spirit said that she wished to be laid in a proper burial.
The empty coffin remains on display along with a plaque accounting her story.

More Famous Witches!!

She was once pretty!

More Famous Witches. (The last bit tomorrow)!

Old Dorothy Clutterbuck 1880-1951. Clutterbuck was allegedly the high priestess of a coven of witches and was suppose to have initiated Gerald B. Gardner into witchcraft. It also said that Clutterbuck was actually not the hight priestess but a protector of the high priestess that the real high priestess was a woman by the name of Dafo. She was a woman of high respect and wealth. When she died she left a hefty amount of money more than 60,000 pounds.
Isobel Goldie ?-1662. It is said that she had wild sexual escapades with the devil who had initiated her into the art of witchcraft. She confessed this several times but many thought that it was just a story she had made up and that it was just a game that had gotten out of hand. There are no records as to what had happened to her or other people she confessed to being witches as well. In all likelihood they were all hung as her confessions were so obscene for the time.
Joan of Arc 1412-1431. She was not charged as most people have said for practising witchcraft but for being a relapsed heretic who denied the authority of the church.
Margaret Jones ?-1648. The first witch to be executed in Massachusetts Bay Colony, she was accused of being a witch after patients under her care as their physician had gotten sicker. The reason why many patients got worse was because they refused to take medicines prescribed for them.
Lady Alice Kyteler ?-1324. Lady Alice was a wealthy woman from Ireland who was accused of witchcraft as a result of the fact that her fourth husband and his family believed she had lured him into marrying her more money. These charges were dropped and later she moved to England were she lived in luxury until her death.
Marie Laveau 1794?-1881 and 1827-1897. The most renown voodoo queen in North AMerica was actually a mother and daughter. Their appeal was their magical powers, control of one's lovers and enemies, and sex. Marie I was a most powerful woman who was told all the secrets by women and was able to use these to increase her powers. Marie II was feared more and inspired subserviance.

And Yet More Halloween Fun!

More Witch Lore...

Caroline of Brunswick 1768-1821 she was Queen to King George IV Of England.
It is told that she felt she was constantly being neglected by her husband and she decided to make a wax effigy of him and stick pins and thorns into it and then melt in a palace fireplace.
the North Berwick Witches a group of men and women who were accused of witchcraft in Scotland in the 16th century. On minimal evidence they were condemned and tortured and burnt. They were supposed to have created a storm to drown King James 1.
Tamsin Blight 1798-1856. Famous English witch healer and a person who is able to remove curses or spells from a person. She was also said to have put spells on those who did not please her. Also known as Tammy Blee and Tamson.
Mary Butters late 18th century-early 19th century. She is known as the Carmoney Witch and narrowly escaped trial for the killing of a cow and three people. She claimed at her inquest she saw a black man who killed the three people and that she was knocked unconscious causing the ingredients to become toxic. The incident was made into a humorous ballad.

I had to add this joke I just recieved!!
Once there was a family who was given some venison by a friend. The wife cooked up the deer steaks, and served it to the husband and children. The husband thought it would be fun to have the children guess what it was that they were eating. "Is is beef?" The daughter Katie asked. "Nope." "Is it pork?" the son Willie asked."Nope.""Heck, we don't know, Dad!" Willie exclaimed. "I'll give you a clue," the Dad said, "It's what your mom sometimes calls me.""Spit it out, Willie!" cried Katie, "We're eating Asshole!!"

History and Customs of Halloween

Halloween

Halloween is celebrated annually. But just how and when did this peculiar custom originate? Is it, as some claim, a kind of demon worship? Or is it just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual?
The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints. But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.
One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife, (Panati). The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living, (Gahagan).
Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish the fires in their homes, to make them cold and undesirable. They would then dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily paraded around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess, (Panati).
Probably a better explanation of why the Celts extinguished their fires was not to discourage spirit possession, but so that all the Celtic tribes could relight their fires from a common source, the Druidic fire that was kept burning in the Middle of Ireland, at Usinach, (Gahagan).
Some accounts tell of how the Celts would burn someone at the stake who was thought to have already been possessed, as sort of a lesson to the spirits, (Panati). Other accounts of Celtic history debunk these stories as myth, (Gahagan).
The Romans adopted the Celtic practices as their own. But in the first century AD, they abandoned any practice of sacrificing of humans in favor of burning effigies.
The thrust of the practices also changed over time to become more ritualized. As belief in spirit possession waned, the practice of dressing up like hobgoblins, ghosts, and witches took on a more ceremonial role.
The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1840's by Irish immigrants fleeing their country's potato famine. At that time, the favorite pranks in New England included tipping over outhouses and unhinging fence gates, (Panati).
The custom of trick-or-treating is thought to have originated not with the Irish Celts, but with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes," made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers, could expedite a soul's passage to heaven.
The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.
According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. Instead, the devil gave him a single ember to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer.
The Irish used turnips as their "Jack's lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.
So, although some cults may have adopted Halloween as their favorite "holiday," the day itself did not grow out of evil practices. It grew out of the rituals of Celts celebrating a new year, and out of Medieval prayer rituals of Europeans. And today, it is only as evil as one cares to make it.

Peek-A-Boo!

Okay already!
My sister told me to update, so here is my update:
Been working hard...Been busy after work...Back hurts so I'm crabby...Trying to cope.
It's not that bad but I really have had a busy week and nothing much to say.
I get home and read other's blogs and forget about mine. I just don't have any witty things to say.
But today is FRIDAY!!!! YAHOO!!!
Gotta get to work!!
Have a marvelous day and weekend ahead of ya!!

The last of Things to do at Wal-Mart:
....Dart around the store suspiciously loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.
....In the auto department, practice your "Madonna look" using different size funnels. (my favorite!! It's FUN!!)
....Hide in a clothing rack and when people browse through, say "PICK ME!"
....When an announcement comes over the loud speaker, assume the fetal position and scream "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!!"
(And; last, but not least!)
Go into a fitting room and shut the door and wait a while; and, then, yell, very loudly, "There is no toilet paper in here!"

Typical Tuesday

Well I think I had each of these emotions today. Nothing serious, but a typical Tuesday.
We had a Terrorist scare in the Sunday Seattle Times Paper this week. Known people tied to terrorists were seen taking pictures of the Ferries here on the Island and at Deception Pass Bridge and at the Navy Base.
If we lose the Ferry Docks and the Bridge we are crippled. Hundreds or thousands use the ferries daily to get to work mostly at Boeing or to the Everett Naval Base. It would mean they would rely on us to get them to and from the end of the Island to passenger only barges. Well that is right up my ally! Disaster Preparedness!!
We have a plan in place in case of any disaster. I refuse to let the terrorists make me shiver in fright, but I am also realistic and know this is a bad year and need to prepare for the worst! We are prepared and hoping we never need to use the plan!
Ok, here I go again......Winter is coming and you need to keep survival gear in all your vehicles!!
Change the batteries in all your flashlights and put them back in your car. inventory your first aid kit and put it back in your car. Put a blanket in the back seat. a jug of water, some granola bars, beef jerky, jumper cables, grit (sand & salt), change of underwear and toothbrush! Poncho, and whatever else you need.
BE PREPARED!!
Love ya all!!

More Things to do at Wal-Mart
....Move a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.
....Set up a tent in the camping department and tell other shoppers you'll invite them in if they'll bring pillows from the bedding department.
....When a clerk asks if they can help you, begin to cry and ask 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'
....Look right into the security camera; use it as a mirror, and pick your nose.
....While handling guns in the hunting department, ask the clerk if he knows where the anti- depressants are.

My office #3

Some one asked for a picture of my office.
I embarrasingly took these pictures before I left work tonight!
It is a tiny cubicle. The office is about 8x12 and is divided by a cloth partition behind my desk there.
Someone else has the other half.
I can sit in my chair and swivel to work on the computer, then roll over to the file cabinet.
It gets rather small at times so I take whatever I am working on and go to the conference room to spread out the paperwork.
We are working on a grant for a new facility which might be seen in about 3 years!!
WooHoo!!
My office #2

My window opens up to the parking lot where the buses sit.
I have to close my window alot when the diesel fumes come rolling in!

My office

Um...what can I say?
I have many projects I work on and so little space to do it!

I'm sure he got stuck in there!
And that fish thought he had it made by making faces at that big mean ole pussy cat!!
Boy, the week drags on and Finally Friday gets here and before you know it Sunday night is gone and it is past your bedtime and ready to start another week, and your chores aren't done!
Oh well I can do the floors during the week!
If I don't, Im sure I will get company so I better do it tomorrow! You don't get company unless your house is dirty don't ya know! They wait until your place is the worst, then here they come!! I wish I was one of those gals (like Leslie) that a clean place comes naturally but I'm not! I have a pile of clutter following me wherever I go! Like Pigpen in the Charlie Brown comics! I spend more time trying to straighten up my clutter and find things to make it better, but next thing I know it is there! Oh well if that is all I have to worry about I am lucky!! Maybe I will get a picture of my office and share it with you. Well maybe not. Well We'll see!
HAHAHAHA Well it is now time to hit the hay!
Nite-nite!!

...Go the Service Desk and ask to put a bag of M&M's on lay away.

I couldn't resist this one!

Okay, this is to my sister for picking on me all day and laughing at my shortcomings!
I am going to sleep in all morning then clean house and get prepared for the next week to come!
Hope the weekend is a peaceful one for all, and a special Thanksgiving wish to all my Canadian Friends!

Don't mess with me!

I feel rather bitchy today!
I guess the virus I had ran me down and now I am just tired and bitchy!
I will get over it, but I don't know if the people around me will! HAHAHAHA
It is windy, rainy and 55 degrees here, and I love it!
It is Friday too, so I am, getting over the bitchy mood really quick!
It was just so hard to pull myself out of bed and get dressed!
Hope everyone else has a great day! Alot of people have a long weekend with Columbus Day on Monday or the Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday!
I'll be thinking of you while I am at work!
Well, back to work I go!!

Poop! I cannot get to sleep!!

No, this really isn't me, I have blue eyes!

I came home from work today and about 6:00 I got really sleepy so I went to bed to read for 1/2 hour and woke up an hour later. Well now I cannot get to sleep and it is 2:30AM!! Swell, now I will be a zombie at work tomorrow! So what else is new, huh?

I ran into a friend at the Post Office this afternoon (she isn't hurt) and she told me I better go get my flu shot because there is a shortage in town. I said ok. She said "No go today right now, and promise me you will because you are at high risk and I don't want you to get sick this year"! She works at the Health Department and said that there will only be one place giving the shot and they might run out of the serum. I went there at 1:00 and there was a line and I had to wait 15 minutes. Big deal...I took a friend there two hours later and she was in line 45 minutes!! I heard the gal at the counter say they will rtun out of serum by tomorrow if this keeps up. I looked around and saw no end to the line and cars were pulling up!

Well now I am still wide awake and it is 2:48 but who is watching the clock??

I'll get sleepy around 6:00 just before my alarm goes off I'm sure!!

I'll post the pictures people asked for maybe tomorrow or Friday. Nite-Nite (HA!)

Ghosts

I love Ghost stories and Haunted houses!
I found this site today about Hauntings in this area!
I will spend alot of time reading about them!
We lived in a house that had a ghost in it in 1964-1967.
I also saw a ghost in a house where I lived in 1970.
Does anyone have a ghost story to share?
Ok, I'll play the picture game. What three pictures do you want me to post?

3 Hours later It rolls on in....

It is smelling and feeling like October now! The fog has been rolling in every night now and my imagination gets away with me making up ghost stories. That is really easy to do because this Prairie has a lot of history. In 1857 1 ½ miles away from my house on the beach Col. Isaac Ebey was beheaded by the Renegade Indians from Vancouver Island. The Indians on the Island here were friendly, but those Vancouver Island Indians were the mean ones. Look out, vegasbaby!

They sell pumpkins over there where the trees are. I'll take pictures of them later.
I drove into Anacortes (38 miles away) this morning in fog so thick you could hardly see the pavement. Luckily I know the roads really well. I also keep a sharp well awake eye on the center line looking for any wheels coming my way!
After my appointment I drove on to time a new possible Route for the bus.
That was good for timing, as it was in real time in the fog. I don't like to time them too tight, as the buses would run late at times, and if you time them too loose, the buses would have to stop to make up time.
That is one of the fun part of my job.
At 10:00 this morning the mountain belched again. It was not the big one they are waiting for. That might come weeks later. Mary Lou and I will keep you informed.
Stupid "lookie loo's" are driving up to the mountain to get as close as they can, and even going through places that are off limits! I think they should ticket each and every one of those guys.

I feel much better!

I think I conquered whatever virus invaded my body Thursday!
I slept most of the weekend waking up this morning around 11:30!!
I HATE being out of sorts!
I am cleaning my house in very short energy bursts, but it is getting done.
I found some butterscotch chips so I am making oatmeal scotchies! I am using Splenda instead of regular sugar, but the rest is the bad stuff, like the butterscotch chips and the brown sugar, but I am cutting whenever I can. I found some ice cream to scream about! "Dreyers carb benefit" Vanilla bean made with Splenda. It says that "sensitive individuals may experience a laxative effect from excess consumption of this ingredient!". So hey! What a bonus! eat it, then get rid of it without having to purge!! What a concept!!

Mt St Helens is still shaking. I cannot help but think that history is repeating itself.
In 1980 the mountain started rumbling in March, it made a big steam burst in April and the scientists were warning everyone to stay away. Nothing happened so people started returning to the mountain. On May 18th it blew it's top and killed 57 people including a crusty ole character (Harry Truman) that refused to leave his Spirit Lake Lodge with his 16 cats. All that went up in ashes in a matter of seconds!

I pray it doesn't happen like that again. We are safe here where we are, but the ash would be spread across the countryside.

We said goodbye to Gar last night at the Mariners game. Edgar Martinez is a true Mariner and stayed here even when other offers of more money came his way. Thank you Gar for a great ride!! Because of you I am a Mariners fan! We are a classy bunch, even though we don't win every time! It's the classy way we play the game!! Farewell Gar!

VENUS AND REGULUS: Prepare to wake up early: Just before sunrise onSunday, Oct. 3rd, the planet Venus and the bright star Regulus will bebeautifully close together in the eastern sky--only 1/5 of one degreeapart. It's a real treat for early risers.

BLUE MOON ALERT: Mount St. Helens in Washington is spewing ash and steam, and scientists say a bigger eruption could happen soon. (Real soon!! It just burped again!) This means skywatchers in western North America should be alert for blue moons in the weeks ahead. Airborne particles from volcanoes can act like a color-filter, shading the moon (or even the sun) blue. Follow the links at spaceweather.com for more information.

SOLAR ACTIVITY: For the second straight week, solar activity remains low.Bright auroras are unlikely in the nights ahead.

ICHIRO RULES!!

Mt St Helens

Well the mountain started letting off some steam today a few minutes ago.
We still do not know if she is going to blow her top or just sit there and fart all day.
It is actually exciting watching the tv as things happen.
I'm hoping that it will wait until tonight when Ichiro breaks the hitting record to blow her top at the same time! That would be memorable!!
Breaking news is coming on the tv and I just got this site emailed to me. check it out!!
This is exciting! I sure hope everyone stays safe in case it blows for good!
I will keep you updated!

I don't feel good!

Boy, I was at work today at 4:00 and all of a sudden I got nauseaous and dizzy! I sat there for awhile and tried to make it go away but it was getting worse. I left to go home and stopped at the Post Office and almost passed out when checking my mail. I made it back to the car and sat there for awhile then drove home. (Do not try this at home!! STUPID!). Luckily I did not pass out or get in an accident. I got home and made it in the house and sat at the computer and my entire world was spinning like heck. I get Vertigo once in awhile but this seemed worse. I felt like I was going to burst at both ends, and prepared for it, but it just kept up. I went to my recliner and reclined and the world kept spinning. I closed my eyes and it got worse. It's pretty bad when you feel sick and want to lie down and can't!! I took a few antiematics (seasick pills) and fell asleep. I woke up an hour later and still felt bad. It was 6:30 so I thought maybe if I tried to eat something I would feel better. Now if you know me, I am one that think food is a cure for everything!! In fact when I am sick I eat more trying to get better!! My size shows that! I made a grilled cheese (with Velveeta of course) but could only eat 1/2 of it. Now I know I am sick!! I don't have a fever(98.6), my blood sugars are ok 120, and my blood pressure is a little elevated (140/80) but not high. So I think I'll live. (Once an EMT always an EMT)!
I sat back in the recliner after eating the 1/2 grilled cheese and got a big glass of water, my phone & the remote, got all cuddly in the blanket and knocked over my glass of water!! I crawled out and stumbled into the bathroom to get a towel to clean up the mess and finally got it cleaned up then stuggled back into my nest and this time I knocked over the ginger ale I had! Well POOP!! I struggled back out of my nest and cleaned that up then FINALLY got all settled in for another nap!! (I am so dizzy it is a struggle to stand or bend over) I must've been a funny site to watch!!
I hate it when I feel out of sorts!! I get like a little kid wanting her mommy for a hug then I want to be left alone! So I called my sister....HA!! busy....busy....busy!! Either her or her daughter are on the computer. I can never get her on the phone. I told her she needs to tell her daughter to get her own phone line for her computer, but noooooo! She has a cell phone but keeps it in her car.
Well it is 11:00 now and I'm feeling a little better. I don't think I will sleep in bed though because I still feel dizzy. Yes I will go to the doctor tomorrow for a check-up. I get sinus infections alot, and this might be the problem. I have been coming home all week from work and falling into bed for a nap each night, waking up tired and starting all over again!
Ok, I feel better now. I just needed to voice this out and get some sympathy and hugs!!
Now go away and leave me alone to suffer in privacy!!
Friday!! My favorite!!

Thought for the day:
The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends,if they're okay, then it's you.

Ichiro only needs 2 more hits in three games to break the record!! Woo Hoo!! Maybe it will happen tomorrow!! I can just imagine the feel of the crowd in the stadium!!
Then we will say good by to Edgar Martinez!! Thank you Gar for giving us a good show!!

Stupid cowboy joke

An old cowboy sat down at the bar and ordered a drink. As he sat sipping his drink, a young woman sat down next to him. She turned to the cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "Well, I've spent my whole life, breaking colts, working cows, going to rodeos, fixing fences, pulling calves, bailing hay, doctoring calves, cleaning my barn, fixing flats, working on tractors, and feeding my dogs, so I guess I am a cowboy. How about you?"

She said, "I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about women. When I shower, I think about women. When I watch TV, I think about women. I even think about women when I eat. It seems that everything makes me think of women."

The two sat sipping in silence.

A little while later, a man sat down on the other side of the old cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "I always thought I was, but I just found out I'm a lesbian."

Thought for the day:
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

This cat does nothing all day but sleep, eat, drink water, use the litter box (thank God), sit in the window and tease the male cats, then sleep, etc. I resent her!

Third Step Prayer

"God, I offer myself to Thee--to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties,
that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power,
Thy Love, and Thy Way of life.
May I do Thy will always!"

In AA we work the twelve steps, and
The first step is admitting we are powerless over alcohol (or drugs or whatever),
The second step is Coming to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
The third step is "Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Sometimes you just have to pull the reigns and stop the path you are going and give it to God.
I have found myself getting on my pitty-pot a little too much lately and I don't like it!
I find myself worrying about my health, worrying about my job, worrying about my friends, worrying about my family, worrying about....well you get what I am trying to say. It is time for me to quit worrying and give it to God to worry about and get a good nights sleep. God is up all night so he can deal with it and give me what he thinks I can handle. I do like to give Him a suggestion once in awhile but tell Him I accept whatever He decides to give me. I am a very fortunate person that I got in the AA program when I did, and that it stuck with me. Some people struggle with the program and go back to drinking. AA is not for everyone, but it sure helped me through the rough times. I just had to search around to find the right group.
The Third step was the hardest for me because I have always been taught that I am responsible for everything I do. Now I am told to give the power to God and accept what He gives to you. I understand now, but it was hard for me to understand that concept. I still make decisions at work and in my life but now I accept the things I cannot change and have the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference!
AMEN

Day is Done!!

Ahh, the day is done, all went well!!
I got home around 4:00 and laid down for a nap at 6:00 and woke up at 7:00. Well I'm up for the night now!!
We had 80 people show for the Luncheon today and everyone was pleased!!
Thanks for the slaps everyone, but I will do this again next year now that I know how much fun it was and how pleased everyone was!! I know what to delegate and what I need to do and when to do it. It is simple really!!
Hannah spoke and got some tears in people's eyes. She will be 89 in three weeks. She probably won't be here for the Luncheon next year, but you never know!!
It's funny how people's moods go in cycles. I felt like isolating early in the week, and a few gals came up to me and told me they felt like they were in a funk of a mood and really didn't feel like being there, but glad they came! I told them the moon is getting full and it is an "isolation" moon. The moon goes in cycles. When I worked on the ambulance, it seemed like there were broken legs one month, car accidents another, heart attacks another, suicides another. Weird how it goes, but this month it is "isolation".
Well I guess I better get my chores done now so I can play tomorrow!

Thought for the day:
If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced
enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it.)
If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is
produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
(Now that's more like it!)

I had a Rough Week!

I had a rough week!
Work went ok but hectic, my back got really inflamed again on Wednesday and I had to stay at home taking pain pills and sleep, a dear friend of mine had a really serious health scare with her daughter and spent two days in Children's Hospital, (she's ok now we think...they are running some tests) and tomorrow I am putting on a Women's AA Luncheon that usually 20-30 people show up for and I have 86 reservations already!! During this I have to take a van and pick up my friend Hannah in her wheelchair and get her to the luncheon.
All I really want to do is sleep in and forget it all! But Nooooo, I have to be the responsible person and get everything done right!! (she says really sarcastically). Next time anyone hears of me volunteering to do something, just reach in the computer and grab me by the hair and slap the shit outa me!! Ok? Please?
I'm gonna go eat some popcorn and finish watching Third Watch!
Have a drink for me will ya?

Thought for the day:
Eat well, stay fit, die anyway.

Ya ever feel like this?

Sometimes I just feel like poop, and want to say "BITE ME"!!
I dedicate my life to helping people and will drop anything if I get a call in the middle of the night to help someone with a problem But sometimes I feel "used" and unappreciated. This is very seldom but nevertheless, I get overwhelmed at times. This has been one of those weeks and I was getting "into myself" and feeling "used" and "abused". I was ready to pull the curtains and just hibernate and shut out the world.
In AA that is a very dangerous feeling but it does come on once in awhile.
I woke up this morning in total pain again. The cold in my system settled in my hip area again and could not get out of bed!! I took a pain pill and went to the recliner to hibernate. My sister called and told me that Carol C gave me quite a rave on her web site!
I went over to her site and read what she wrote about me. It brought tears to my eyes and made me feel VERY appreciated!! Thank you Carol. I needed that about now. I know now that it is worth every minute if I helped one person!! Especially if the person needs help with the drinking problem.
It is not about me any more. It was like a vitamin shot today Thanks!
I sometimes think it would be easier if I kept my mouth shut and not have told anyone that I go to AA.
Now I know it was worth it! Ya got a problem? email me!!
Love ya all!!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.

Storms a comin

This is what our beaches look like during a storm.
I took off the canopy from my gazebo in my yard anticipating the Fall storms coming.
On Columbus Day October 12, 1962 we had the remnants of a hurricane blow through here knocking out power and taking roofs off houses. It was a devestating storm.
We have some doozies in October and November. Usually a good Thanksgiving Day storm will blow through knocking out the power and make people scramble around looking for ways to finish cooking their turkeys!
We had 18 inches of snow on Thanksgiving around 1983 or 1984. I'm actually looking forward to the storms. I love them as long as we are all safe in our houses. I'm sure the people in Florida or in the Southeast will think I'm crazy about now, but I can't help it.
I was in Connecticut from 1976-1979 and lived through the big storm in the Summer that knocked out the power in New York City. It was a powerful storm and you could smell the electricity in the air. Then the Blizzard of 1978 came through and I was all excited about that!! A real Blizzard!! WOW!!! We only get flurries here and then it melts. The wind is what we get. Well it is supposed to be nice for a while so I guess I will just go through my supplies and be sure I have everything ready just in case we get the big storm!!
It would be a good idea if you all did that!! Get a disaster kit ready and handy!

Thought for the day:

Great Blue Heron

Imagine my surprise when my phone rang last Summer and my 88 year old neighbor was whispering for me to look out my kitchen window! I looked out and this huge bird was staring right at me! He was about 15 feet from my window. I got all excited and ran out to my car and ran back into my kitchen and took a bunch of pictures. I have seen these birds alot but never this close to a house! He stayed there for a couple of hours then flew away.
We have Eagles here, Great Blue Herons, Canadian Geese, Mallards, Perrigrine Falcons, Hawks, Kingfisher, Coyotes, Raccoon, Red Fox, Possom, Beaver, lots of wild life! I love this Island. I wish it could stay the way it is, but I am afraid that progress will take over and we will lose the quaintness of it. It has changed so much in the past 20 years, I am afraid of what the next 20 years will bring. Oh well I'll enjoy it while I can.

Thought for the day:
If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip.

DOH!!

Well go figure!!
I very seldom have a TV show that I watch weekly. I used to love to watch "North of 60" on the Canadian Channel but they took that off. Now "Third Watch" and "ER" are my favorites.

Friday night is my night that I go to AA meetings and then shop and come home around 11:00PM.
Third Watch used to be on Monday nights, but last year they changed it to Friday nights at 10:00PM.
Well ok, I would rush home and get home just in time to watch the show. Now this season they decided to put Third Watch on at 9:00PM!! That is not good!! Ok, I have a new VCR/DVD player so I can tape it. Sure, how the heck do you work it? I got it to record, but don't know how to set it up, so I turned to the channel and pressed record and left. I figure I can fast forward to the place where Third Watch comes on.

I got home around 11:00 and when I got home the tv was off, the VCR tape was ejected and rewound!! HUH??? What's with that? I put the tape in and pushed play, and nothing but snow came on!! Well heck, that isn't good!! I missed the season opening!! I started to cry and throw a fit but decided I will just forget it and sleep on it and tomorrow I will try again. I went to bed and first thing this morning I tried playing the tape, and again nothing but snow!! I don't understand, I was testing it last night and it worked then. I taped about 5 minutes then rewound it and played it back and it worked. Why doesn't it work now? I got the manual and it said to press menu and follow the prompts. I pressed menu and nothing happened!! WHAT??!! I just hate feeling helpless!! I read...pushed buttons...read...pushed buttons...then decided to wait until someone comes over to help me. My sister-in-law came over and she tried to see what was wrong and she couldn't figure it out either. I was ready to pack it up and return the contraption! I got a different tape to see if it was able to play, and it didn't either. Sherri said it should be on channel 3 to play a tape. DOH!!!! I switched to channel 3 and sure enough the menu button worked, and the tape worked!! HOOORAY!! Now I can sit and watch the season opening!!

I got my coffee and sat down all ready to watch it, and fast forwarded through Evening Magazine & Dateline, up to Third Watch. In the opening they showed what happened last season in the closing episode and a gunman came into the ER where the cops were and opened up with machine gun fire and when the shooting subsided one of the cops started screaming and holding her friend who I couldn't see who it was, then the tape stopped!!!!!!! WWWHHHHHHAAAAATTTTT????!!!!!
It only taped two hours????? Now I have NO IDEA WHO WAS SHOT OR WHAT HAPPENED!!
WHHAAAAAAAA!!!

I now know how to set up the VCR and programmed it to tape from 9-11 every Friday night, and I programmed the VCR to SLP speed. Is that the speed I want for 6 hours?

It isn't the end of the world, but it sure made a crappy Friday night!!
I didn't drink over it, although it sure would've been a good night for it!!

Thought for the day...
I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks,
so I wondered what do................Chinese mothers use? Toothpicks?

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common and chronic disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points. The word fibromyalgia comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek ones for muscle (myo) and pain (algia). Tender points are specific places on the body—on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and upper and lower extremities—where people with fibromyalgia feel pain in response to slight pressure.
Although fibromyalgia is often considered an arthritis related condition, it is not truly a form of arthritis (a disease of the joints) because it does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints, muscles, or other tissues. Like arthritis, however, fibromyalgia can cause significant pain and fatigue, and it can interfere with a person's ability to carry on daily activities. Also like arthritis, fibromyalgia is considered a rheumatic condition.
You may wonder what exactly rheumatic means. Even physicians do not always agree on whether a disease is considered rheumatic. If you look up the word in the dictionary, you'll find it comes from the Greek word rheum, which means flux—not an explanation that gives you a better understanding. In medicine, however, the term rheumatic means a medical condition that impairs the joints and/or soft tissues and causes chronic pain.
In addition to pain and fatigue, people who have fibromyalgia may experience
*sleep disturbances,
*morning stiffness,
*headaches,
*irritable bowel syndrome,
*painful menstrual periods,
*numbness or tingling of the extremities,
*restless legs syndrome,
*temperature sensitivity,
*cognitive and memory problems (sometimes referred to as "fibro fog"), or
a variety of other symptoms.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome rather than a disease. Unlike a disease, which is a medical condition with a specific cause or causes and recognizable signs and symptoms, a syndrome is a collection of signs, symptoms, and medical problems that tend to occur together but are not related to a specific, identifiable cause.

Yep...got all that!
I need now to concentrate REALLY HARD on LOSING WEIGHT!! My weight is not making my condition any better at all! If I lost about 100 pounds the pain wouldn't be so bad. (I hope)!! I'm sick of myself anyway!! The problem is Diabetes!! I started putting on weight really bad in my late 40's and that is when they diagnosed me with Diabetes. It was inevitable that I got it. Dad had it, his family, my sister, and now my 49 year old brother is borderline. We all live different lives and eat differently. My sister loves carbohydrates, I love protein! I was a health nut in my 40's but it didn't help. My doctor told me to quit blaming myself, that there was no escape. I ended up on insulin, and that made me gain even MORE weight! 60 pounds in a year!!
My doctor apologized and told me it does that. I want to get out and do my three mile walks again but can't because of my back! Well I am now going to put myself on a strict regime and DO SOMETHING!! If it doesn't work, then at least I tried!!
Okay, Leslie...I'll diet if you quit smoking!!
hehehehehehehehe

Thought for the day:
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
enough trials to make you strong ,
enough sorrow to keep you human
and enough hope to make you happy.

Hump Day!

Well today I went to the Neurosurgeon in Bellingham to see what he can do about my back. I was told three years ago that I might end up with surgery because I have degenerative disc disease with bone spurs that aggravate the muscles when inflamed. At times the pain is so excrutiating that I cannot get out of bed and walk to the bathroom without screaming in agony. Last month was one of those occasions, and I ended up at home for a week taking narcotic pain pills! (They are great, but not really what I should be taking with my addictive history) The inflamation subsided and now I am just in everyday pain. It is not going to improve. I have to learn to live with it.
The doctor nearly cried with me. He said the pain does not sound like nerve damage but muscular. In other words, "Fibromyalgia" as people like to call it today. I get sickly and exhausted and then the pain sets in and I am down for at least a week. I am going to a specialist in Anacortes who specializes in sports medicine rehabilitation. If I can't beat it, I might as well try to learn to live with it and do something about it! I have 11 more years to work before I can retire, and I cannot become a disabled person!! I REFUSE!!!! He told me that if I could get access to a swimming pool it would be a great way to exercise. We have a pool 10 miles away but I work, and the hours are just not compatible to working folks.

Gads, I feel like the Hurricane is coming ashore here! I have been watching the news and anticipating the storm and have the lanterns ready and water jugs filled! Oh, I always have that stuff! Oh well it is always good to be prepared for any disaster!! I pray nobody gets hurt or loses their homes!

I don't have any funny things or anything interesting to say so I will close with this
thought for the day:

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Until tomorrow...

Autumn is here

I know we all have posted about the season changing, but today seems to be one of those wonderful Fall days! It is 53 degrees, breezy and raining! It seems gloomy and it is only 5:30.
I LOVE this weather!! I like to sit in a cozy house and crochet listening to the rain hit my metal roof.

I have a pet door in my kitchen and my cat "Punkin" that I have had for 4 years has just discovered it!!
She thinks she is so smart!! I was in the kitchen the other night when it was raining, and heard a tap tap. I looked around and shrugged my shouldders. I heard it again and looked at the pet door and saw a white paw sticking through! I have a board that blocks the door from being used, but it doesn't cover it completely. I lifted the board and she came in!! I watched her, and she would leave going out the front door but enter using the pet door.
Well ok, that is fine. If I leave her out by mistake she can get in through the pet door. I was in bed the night before last and felt Punkin jump on the bed around 4:00AM. I reached down to pet her and she was soaking wet!! Well I know for a fact that she doesn't go swimming in the toilet, so it only means one thing!!! She discovered how to go OUT the door too!! Well I blocked it today. I don't want her outside in the middle of the night to be taken by a night owl. I let her go in and out while I am here, but I keep her in while I am away or at night.

I am off tomorrow to go to the doctor in Bellingham and find out what is wrong with my back.
Hopefully he can tell me how to miracuously fix it so I won't be disabled in my senior years!
I'm afraid I know what he will tell me, but we'll see.
Until tomorrow.....

Thought for the day:
Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile tomake a dark day seem bright.
Find the one that makes your heart smile.

A day like this brings me back to my childhood before I went to school. Mom would send Mary Lou off to school and mom and I would have cinnamin toast and tea! She would make some tea and put cream and sugar in it and a cinnamin stick to sip it through. Then she would make the toast in the oven. Toast one side of the toast under the broiler then flip it over and spread butter on it and sprinkle sugar on the butter and shake cinnamin on the sugar then put it back in the broiler until it bubbles. Ahhhhh!
What are your comfort food memories?
(and why do we associate things with food)?

Well.....That was fun!

Well here it is Sunday night, 7:10 pm and tomorrow I go back to work!
Where ever did it go??
My house isn't near as clean of what I wanted it to be, but I had some prime time with friends and family, and that is what it is all about! A day with my brother driving over the mountains, a day with my sister to Burlington shopping, a BBQ at my house tonight, and my Niece Donna and one of my Nephews Galen came. What more can you ask?

I'm still glued to the Weather Station watching the advancement of Hurricane Ivan. I pray it loses strength and stays away from Florida! And Louisiana for that matter!

I don't have any wise words or comments today. Maybe someday I will come up with something. Probably during a storm. That is when I get all excited!

Time for me to get the kitchen cleaned and head to the bathroom to shower and get ready for bed!!

Thought for the day:
The latest sign on a church in Arizona is very clever. It says:
Warning: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning

Time to get ready for Monday!!
Might as well get it over with!

In Rememberence

This is a somber day in rememberence of the Terrorist attack on the US 3 years ago!
Although it happened on US soil it was an attack on the entire world!
Life as we knew it before the attacks no longer exists. We no longer feel as safe as we did traveling.
At work we have classes on pre-tripping the buses before we take them out.
We now look for "suspicious things" under the buses.
At the Ferries there are State Patrol searching the cars and trucks.
Thousands of people died on September 11, 2001 right before our eyes!!
My sister called me in the morning and told me to turn on the news. I did and saw the horrific sight of the first tower burning. I then saw the second plane hit the second tower, and people jumping out of windows to their deaths to escape the horrific pain of burning to death! I was glued to the television all week watching it all!!

I taped the documentary of the events that was shown in March 2002.
Engine 7 Ladder one was the first to arrive at the scene of the twin towers and there was a cameraman with them taping a documentary of a rookie firefighter on the job. The documentary was taped inside the towers and with the firefighters on the job. It was by accident that they were taping that day, but it was incredible footage!! As a firefighter myself, I can see some mistakes made but under the circumstances, we all would just go about our business and save as many people as we could not thinking of our own safety!
My prayers are with the survivors and families of all the heroes of that day, along with all the innocent people that went to work that morning unaware of their fate and ultimately died!

I cannot imagine witnessing that in person!!

I pray this will never happen again! Ever. Anywhere!!
AMEN!

Friday already??!

Well time certainly zips right on by when you are having fun, huh?
I went to Burlington with my sister on wednesday and got home pretty late and today I did some chores and went to visit my friend Hannah.
I planned on staying home and doing nothing but laze around and nap the entire week, and I didn't nap once!!
Tomorrow I visit a gal I sponsor in AA and go over her second step then we go to the AA meeting. I get home at 10:00pm. I guess Saturday will be the day of doing nothing! Sunday I am having the family over for a BBQ for my brother's birthday. Then back to work Monday.
Sheesh!
I did get alot accomplished though so it was a well planned week.

I watched the weather channel most of the day. That hurricane Ivan has turned out to be the horrible one after all!! It killed alot of people and turned into a category 5, and heading towards Jamaica now!!
Maybe it will bypass Florida this time, but I doubt it.
Refill your water bottles and brace yourself again folks!!

Ok, I can't help it. I got the cutest email today and want to share it. click here and have a giggle.
Oh....and turn the sound up!!!

Thought for the day:
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past;
you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

Well I am off to Twisp in an hour.
It is about a 4 hour drive through the Cascade Moutain range, and this time of year should be pretty.
My brother is going with me, so I am buying his lunch. It is Senior discount day at the Casino $2.99 buffet.
WooHoo I am an exciting date, huh?
I have been looking for a new kind of camping trailer to trade mine in on. I have a pop-up tent trailer and it is easy, but for me and my arthritis and back problems, I am not eager to go camping anymore because it is hard for me to set up camp. By the time I am all set up, I am exhausted and in pain.
I don't need anything huge, so I am looking at the "teardrop" style trailers. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Thought for the day:
Dream what you want to dream;
go where you want to go;
be what you want to be,
because you have only one life
and one chance to do all the thingsyou want to do.

Slow Down!!

Whoa Nellie, Slow Down!!
It seems like yesterday was Friday, now it's Monday!! Vacations just seem to FLY right on by!!
I woke up at 7:30 this morning and couldn't sleep any more so I got up.
I plan on staying home all day and do chores and putz! It is 10:00 already!!

Not much to Blog about. I am taking my brother to Twisp (just over the mountains) tomorrow to visit a friend of mine. It is a beautiful drive this time of year. My sister wanted to take a drive over the mountains, so I called my friend and asked what day would be good for her, and Tuesday is the only day she has free, so I told her I was coming. Well go figure....Mary Lou is busy that day!! So I called my brother and he jumped at the chance to go for a drive!! We are a very forttunate family that we live close and we all love each other and stay in touch!! Of course they have no choice, I make sure of that!! hahahahahahaha
Next Wednesday I have a doctor's appointment in Bellingham so Mary Lou and I will go to Mount Baker after that.
My neighbor friends (the gremlins) have been gone this weekend and it has been nice and quiet. They came running over about 1/2 hour ago. They were at their father's house. I enjoy the little buggars, but they do wear me out when they arrive in force (all 5 of them). It makes me feel warm inside when kids feel comfortable to come visit me. Except when Stephanie (9 years old) gets close to me and says "what are those?" pointing at my skin tags on my neck. I tell her it is old lady skin. She goes eeeyyyuuuu!! Then she giggles and says "you have some hair on your chin!" I say "GET THE HELL OUTA MY HOUSE YOU LITTLE BRAT!"!! No, really I just said "well that is more old lady stuff!" Then she points at me and says "you're wearing a bra!!" I said " and you are so lucky I am!! Kids say the darndest things, don't they?
Well they just came back so I better go protect my territory!
GADS!!! It is 11:00 already!!

Today's funny:
Three mice aresitting at a bar after the funeral of an Ontario mouse killed by aneighty year old lady with a broom, trying to impress each other abouthow tough they are. The Manitoba mouse throws down a shot of bourbon, slams theempty glass onto the bar, turns to the Alberta mouse and says, "When Isee a mousetrap, I lie on my back and set it off with my foot. When thebar comes down, I catch it in my teeth, bench press it twenty times towork up an appetite, and then make off with the cheese." The Alberta mouse orders up two shots of tequila, drinks themdown one after the other, slams both glasses onto the bar, turns to theManitoba mouse and replies, "Oh yeah? When I see rat poison, I collectas much as I can, take it home, grind it up to a powder, and add it tomy coffee each morning so I can get a good buzz going for the rest ofthe day." The Manitoba and Alberta mouse then turn to the Saskatchewanmouse. The Saskatchewan mouse finishes the beer he has in front of him, lets out a long sigh and says to the two, "I don't have time for thisbullshit. Gotta go home and have sex with the cat."

Thought for the day:
If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...does that mean that one enjoys it?

Sunday....Day 2

Well it looks like the most part of Eastern US will get part of Hurricane Frances!! Whew, what a huge storm that is, and Ivan is still forming and heading this way! Fill up your water jugs and pack your car!

I got this today in an e-mail and thought it was great!

Road Rage:

An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on abusy boulevard.Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He didthe right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten thered light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection with him. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.
Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

Thought for the day.......
If a cow laughed, would milk come out of her nose?

Saturday...Day one

Nine whole days off!! No Plans, and I'm not sick!!
I woke up at 7:00 then rolled over and got up at 9:00. Ahhhh, just knowing I don't have to get up makes me feel relaxed! I sprayed my gravel and bricks today because there is a whole bunch of tiny green stuff starting to grow on top of the gravel and bricks!! What's with that?! My neighbor said it is chick weed that blows in on the wind. gads, you don't even need dirt to grow a good crop of weeds here!! I wonder if I let it grow if I could harvest it and eat it? hmmmmm, chickweed salad? Tossed with a homemade vinagrette?
My goodness, I am watching the weather channel to see what Hurricane Frances is doing, and they said there is yet another storm forming called Ivan, and in 5 days it will be by the Bahamas. Will it be "Ivan the Horrible"?
What a horrible thing to happen in Russia. Those poor people standing back and watching helplessly as they lose their loved ones in the explosions at the school!! What cowards that pick innocent children to capture, torture and murder!! Yes they tortured them by not feeding them and keeping them in fear of dying. They are nothing but the lowest cowardly animals!! My prayers are with their families. God bless them.
Well I am taking my friend Hannah to lunch today. That takes most of the day because she is in a wheelchair, and I take her with the Paratransit bus.

Thought for the day:
"Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance".

Dancing away.....later folks!!

Brrrrr...

Wow!! I woke up this morning to the heater going!! I thought it was turned off until November, but just checked and I have it at 62 degrees. The temperature outside is 45 degrees and a few dark looking clouds out there. I guess Fall is here!! I'll take this weather any day thank you very much!!
I feel for the people in Florida preparing for yet another huge destructive Hurricane heading their way!! It is getting scarey. God's weapon of mass destruction!!

I am so looking forward to tomorrow! I have all next week off with NO PLANS!!! My main plan is to turn off that blasted alarm clock and leave it off !!

I watched the Republican convention last night and was rather shocked at a Democrat voicing his dislike against Kerry. And then Cheney did the same. I will be so glad when the elections are over with!! They did have a few good things to say but my overall feeling of the speaches were hate Kerry, and not what Bush can do for us. Name calling....what a good thing to show our youth, huh? Sheesh!!

Time to drag myself to work!
